The Fifa World Cup is less than 100days away, gradually the fever is beginning to be felt with fans and pundits predicting how the tournament will pan out. Germany, Brazil, France. and Spain is among the favorites for the tournaments according to the bookies.
What makes the World Cup special is in every tournament there exist a dark horse that surpasses expectation. Remember Ghana in 2010 and Holland in the 2014 tournament.
The country we consider to be the Darkhorse in this tournament is Belgium. The Red Devils as they are called have an immensely talented squad which is capable of going all the way to the final in Moscow.
Under the guidance of Spaniard Roberto Martinez; Belgium could finally shake off the tag of being underperformers in major tournaments. This could be the last chance of the so-called “ Golden Generation” to impress in a major tournament.
Martinez is spoilt for choices in this area with Thibaut Courtois forming the backbone of an impressive, defence with Simon Mignolet as a backup. While Kompany, Vermaleen, Vertoghen, Aldeweired are among the best defenders in the world and provides a strong Base to build on.
Midfield is also a strong area for Belgium with different options available. From the tenacity of RadjaNainggolan,to the skill and physicality of Moussa Dembele and the aerial ability of Fellaini. This team can hurt other teams from different angles and the Crown jewel of the midfield is Kelvin debruyne. The Manchester City midfielder is in the form of his life and has the ability to propel his team to the final.
This is the strongest aspect of the team, with world-class talents like Chelsea Winger Eden Hazard. The 27year old is capable of individual brilliance which can be the difference between victory and defeat. Romelu Lukaku is another game changer who brings physicality and all-round performance to the team.
Other options include Dries Mertens who offers flexibility and Michy Batshuayi with his clinical finishing. Christian Benteke is also an option when needed with his ability to win aerial duels which could prove useful when in search of late goals.
This team is well equipped to surpass the last performance in 2014 world cup which was the last eight and can challenge for the trophy. It remains to be seen if Roberto Martinez can get the best out of his star-studded squad, but write them off at your own peril.
